Pricing is Everything in Data Reselling
Price too high and customers go elsewhere. Price too low and you make no profit. Here's how to find the sweet spot.
Understanding Your Cost Base
Your cost is what you pay on BlessTopup or BlessData as a vendor. Everything above that is your gross profit (before operational costs like data for WhatsApp marketing etc.).
Pricing Models
Fixed Markup (Simple)
Add a fixed amount to every plan: e.g. ₦100 on everything.
- MTN 1GB: Cost ₦280 → Sell ₦380 (₦100 profit)
- MTN 10GB: Cost ₦3,200 → Sell ₦3,300 (₦100 profit)
Simple but doesn't maximise profit on larger plans.
Percentage Markup (Better)
Add a percentage to each plan: e.g. 25% markup.
- MTN 1GB: Cost ₦280 → Sell ₦350 (₦70 profit, 25%)
- MTN 10GB: Cost ₦3,200 → Sell ₦4,000 (₦800 profit, 25%)
More profit on larger plans, rewards customers who buy big.
Market-Based Pricing (Smartest)
Research what other resellers in your area charge. Price 5–10% below them on popular plans to attract customers, slightly above on less competitive plans.
Competing Without Cutting Price
Speed and reliability are worth more to customers than a ₦20 saving. If you're known for instant delivery and never failing, you can charge slightly above market rate.
